One of Alabama’s earliest centers of commerce, Eufaula was established on the bluff of the Chattahoochee River over 160 years ago. Its beautiful antebellum homes, tree-lined streets, and architecturally ornate downtown shops and offices are fruits of commerce and results of dreams realized. In the center of downtown, near the gazebo and fountain, stands a two-story brick building that was home to the Eufaula Board of Trade and Barbour County Chamber of Commerce in the late 1800’s. Since 1982 this historic building has been the home of The Eufaula Agency, Inc., and this is where our story begins.

The Eufaula Agency started its successful journey in 1981 when Bob Powers and John Martin joined forces to create this full-service insurance and real estate brokerage. Powers and Martin have continuously striven to “bring the best together” for their customers and clients, and in all their business and civic service. Their efforts have produced a dynamic small business that helps individuals, families, and businesses achieve their dreams and enjoy the fruits of their labors..
Beginning with only five names on the payroll, the company now has 16 very experienced, trained, and educated team members. The Eufaula Agency has helped its customers and clients develop plans to create wealth, own their home and business, and preserve their assets. Martin and Powers have a simple approach: “Provide the service, products, and relationships for the customer that, under the same circumstances, we would want ourselves.”
The results speak for themselves. After Hurricane Opal, surveys of storm damage victims showed that over 97 percent were “completely satisfied” with the claim settlement and services received through The Eufaula Agency. Customer satisfaction is also reflected by the loyalty of its customers, both residential and business. Over 60 percent of The Eufaula Agency’s insurance customers (over 90 percent life insurance customers) have been with the company over 15 years. Being able to bring years of experience and education in risk management, business and personal planning and having actually implemented business continuation, estate, and buy/sell plans allows Powers, Martin, and their associates to bring significant value to their customers and clients.
The real estate services provided by The Eufaula Agency have produced similar results. Third-party survey responses continuously show “very satisfied” and “completely satisfied” customers and clients. They cite the knowledge, extra effort, personal attention, and integrity of the Realtors and staff as key reasons they recommend and use The Eufaula Agency. When it comes to promoting and facilitating residential and commercial development in the area, The Eufaula Agency is a leader. Bob Powers has been instrumental in the development of millions of dollars of commercial and residential properties. Whether it be real estate sales, development, relocation, management, or training, The Eufaula Agency has a statewide reputation for professionalism, service, and competence.
The tradition of community spirit and service is alive with the principals, employees, and associates of The Eufaula Agency, Inc. Powers and Martin have served as chairmen of numerous boards, ranging from school board to planning commission, Chamber of Commerce to Parks and Recreation, and Carnegie Library Board to Heritage Association. The agency also works closely with other organizations such as Boy Scouts and United Way, as well as local church and civic groups. Powers and Martin have also served on committees, associations, and boards on the state level and with the University of Alabama and Auburn University. They continue to serve.
Eufaula’s history is noteworthy because of the vision and service of its citizens. This tradition continues with The Eufaula Agency, Inc.
